1999 911 Carrera Coupe 6-Speed
How'd the seller of this 996 do after purchasing it at the top of the market?
Launched in the US in 1999, Porsche’s 996 marked a revolutionary chapter in the history of the 911. As the successor to the beloved 993, the 996 introduced dramatic changes that divided enthusiasts while ensuring the long-term survival of Porsche’s iconic sports car. Most notably, it became the first 911 to feature a water-cooled engine, a significant departure from the air-cooled flat-six that had powered every 911 since its debut in 1964. This shift was driven by the need to meet stricter emissions and noise regulations while improving performance and reliability.
This 1999 911 Carrera Coupe 6-Speed was finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Savannah Beige leather interior, showed 40,000 miles on the odometer and featured a rear wing along with 19” MRR Design wheels. The car appeared to be in good condition with minor scratches noted on the front lip, and a service history consisting of an LN Engineering IMS kit installed in January 2015 along with a new clutch disc, flywheel, water pump, and air/oil separator.
The last time we saw this car was in September 2022 when it sold at the peak of the 996 market at a final bid of $34,000. Since then, average prices for 996 Coupes have gone from just below $30,000 to sit at around $28,000 today with a twelve-month high of $67,500 for a 42,000-mile AeroKit-equipped example sold in August of this year. Our Spotlight car did quite well compared to comps with similar mileage (and no AeroKit), selling at a final bid of $43,000. Not bad for the seller on this one.
