2001 911 Turbo Coupe Safari

Hoovie's Hooptie Turbo

Up until a week ago, I thought I’d seen it all when it came to Safari-style Porsches. What started out as rally-inspired vintage 911s, has worked its way onto 964s, 993s, 924s, 944s, 996s, 997s, and now… 996 Turbos. Are Safari GT cars next?

This 2001 911 Turbo Coupe started out as a “scruffy” higher-mileage 996 Turbo with 146,900 miles on the odometer and was turned into the off-roader you see above by Tyler Hoover of the YouTube channel, Hoovies Garage. The list of modifications includes an Evolution Motorsports V-Flow intake, Elephant Racing safari suspension kit, 17” DTM RaderWerkz wheels, Tubular front bumper guard with bumper mounted lights, rock rails, and more. During his stewardship, Hoovie not only modified the car, but kept it serviced as well with annual oil changes, and a replacement right front window regulator, new battery, and new CV boots.

Like I said last week, higher mileage Turbo Coupes have been sitting at around $35-40,000 with the highest mileage example to sell recently being a 116,000-mile Turbo that brought $40,000. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $35,069, which was probably in the neighborhood had this one been stock. But it’s far from stock now. I’d say the buyer got a bit of a deal here as it would cost more to build.
