2002 911 Turbo Coupe 6-speed

A previously sold 996 Turbo shows us the way of the market

After the launch of the much anticipated 996 Turbo, critics of Porsche’s move to water-cooled engines were quickly quieted as the new Turbo was hailed as one of the best cars on the market, bar none. With 415 horsepower on tap from its Mezger engine and AWD, it was faster than most competitors and provided all the luxury of top GT cars.

Today’s Spotlight car, the 2002 911 Turbo Coupe 6-speed pictured above, is finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Black full leather interior and shows just 5,300 miles on the odometer. It is lightly optioned with Lumbar seats, Porsche Communication Management with Remote CD Changer, Heated Front Seats, and a 3-spoke Steering Wheel finished in Dark Wood and Leather.

The Basalt Black Metallic paint is in good condition, although it shows a few stone chips on the front. The CarFax is clean, and paintwork is not mentioned, although no paint meter readings are included in the gallery. The interior shows some wear, mainly creases on the seat bolsters and light scratching on the door sills from ingress and egress. The car has two keys, an owner’s manual, and a service history indicating four new tires and a most recent oil change performed in November 2021.

996 Turbo coupe prices rose steadily from 2019 to the beginning of 2023, with average pricing going from about $40,000 to $80,000, with sub-10,000-mile examples bringing over $100,000. Since February, average pricing has dropped by about $20,000, with only two examples crossing the $100k mark in the last six months.

Our Spotlight car is no stranger to the online auction world. We first saw this car sell in October 2021 for $91,000 on PCARMARKET with 3,962 miles. In July, it failed to sell at a high bid of $86,500; this time, it hammered down for $75,500, making it the lowest price paid for a sub-10k-mile 996 Turbo 6-speed in the last six months thanks to a combination of a softening market and minor flaws. I think it’s time for the new owner to enjoy and drive this one.
