2004 911 Carrera 4S Coupe 6-Speed
Low miles wasn't enough to put this one at the top of the market
Porsche’s 996 Carrera 4S is a standout in the first generation of water-cooled 911s, capturing the aesthetic appeal of the 996 Turbo, but without the forced induction. Borrowing the Turbo’s wide-body stance, the Carrera 4S features broader rear fenders, a lower and stiffer suspension setup, and upgraded braking with the Turbo’s larger red calipers and cross-drilled rotors. It also shares the Turbo’s signature rear reflector strip and incorporates an aggressive front bumper with enlarged air intakes, making the 996 C4S a thing of beauty, at least in this writer’s eyes. 😍
Yes, I’m a little biased towards this 2004 911 Carrera 4S Coupe 6-Speed as it is in the same color combination of Lapis Blue Metallic over Metropol Blue leather as mine. The only differences would be the 18” Sport Techno wheels, and the 8,000 miles on the odometer, compared to my 150k+ and standard Turbo Twists. As you would expect, the car looks to be in good condition but doesn’t offer as many detailed photos as one would like and does not include paint meter readings or service records other than what is on the CarFax. We did see that the IMS was done but there were still questions around bore scoring as low-mileage, colder-climate cars are more prone than others.
After a little bit of a downturn, 996 C4S Coupe prices have held fairly steady over the last few months at an average price of just below $40,000 with a twelve-month high of $78,000 for another 8,000-mile example back in April of this year. Had our Spotlight car shown even paint meter readings, been borescoped for scoring issues, and had more info around service, it probably would have been up there with that high. Instead, it sold at a final bid of $55,500. If all checks out upon delivery, someone got a deal by rolling the dice.
