2005 911 GT3

A race car for the streets

First introduced in 1999, Porsche’s 996 GT3 was the first to use the “GT3” nameplate and built in order to homologate the new 911 for the FIA GT3 Cup. As the GT3 was focused on racing, it was void of anything that added unnecessary weight and featured a version of the Mezger-designed engine used in the 911 GT1 race car. We never got the original GT3 here in the US, but we were lucky enough to get the 996.2 version.

This 2005 911 GT3 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Black and shows 27,700 kilometers (17,300 miles) on the odometer. It features your standard GT3 fare along with an optional Aluminum-look shifter, brake lever, instrument dials, and rear center console. The car has been lightly modified with a Europipe exhaust system, Brey-Krause harness bar, footwell-mounted fire extinguisher, and race brake pads.

The exterior is in good condition, with small chips and scuffs noted in the gallery, although paint meter readings are unavailable. The interior is just as nice, with only your standard scuffs on the sill guards from getting in and out of the car. Mechanically, the car is all there as it shows many service records from 2019 on, with its latest service in February of 2023.

The market for 996.2 GT3s has been pretty steady over the last twelve months, with an average price of just below $120,000. Our Spotlight car, however, sold at a final bid of $103,996, which was quite the discount to comps with similar mileage. One could argue that this car was in Canada, but it was originally a US car. So getting it here to the States shouldn’t be that expensive. A steal, in my opinion.
