2005 911 Turbo S Coupe 6-Speed
Has the ship sailed for low-mileage 996 Turbo S'?
Produced as the send-off for Porsche’s first water-cooled Turbo, the 996 Turbo S was a 450 horsepower beast thanks to the standard X50 package that included larger turbochargers, improved intercooler, and updated ECU. Other perks of the Turbo S included standard PCCB brakes, aluminum interior upgrades, and GT Silver Metallic-painted wheels. A total of 1,563 Turbo S were produced split between 600 Coupes and 963 Cabriolets.
Today’s Spotlight car is this 2005 911 Turbo S Coupe 6-speed finished in Speed Yellow over a Black Full Leather interior with just 9,000 miles on the odometer. It is in excellent condition, as you can imagine for such few miles, showing little in the way of wear and features recent service receipts despite having been driven little since the seller purchased the car mid-2023.
Like many variants of the 996, prices rose post pandemic peaking in the summer of 2022 with a high sale of $229,600 (includes buyer’s premium) for a 15,600-mile example at Gooding & Co.’s Monterey sale. Since then, we haven’t seen a lower mileage car sell despite a number on offer.
Over the last twelve months, we’ve seen a 2,700-mile fail to sell at a final bid of $227,500 and then fail to sell again three months later at a final bid of $150,000. Our Spotlight car joins those no-sales at a final bid of $151,000. Based on the sliding number of the much-lower mileage car, $151,000 appears to be a solid effort.
While the final bid seemed right for today’s market, there are too few comps to really tell. If the seller isn’t in a rush to sell, I’d hold this one until low-mileage 996s hit their stride again.
