2005 Carrera GT
Price prediction time!
Over the last nine months I’ve been working on an analytics platform that takes advantage of all the data I’ve collected on every Porsche sold at auction over the last two-plus years. I’ve worked with a Lehigh University Data Science Ph.D. to create a Machine Learning model that runs price predictions on cars taking into account not just model and mileage, but other nuances that make Porsches special such as color, history, and options. Our first test subject was the Carrera GT, and with the launch of the web-app getting closer, I figured today’s Spotlight car would be a great test subject to see how the model performs.
This 2005 Carrera GT was finished in GT Silver Metallic over a Dark Gray leather interior and showed just 2,191 miles on the odometer. Residing in Canada, this US-market example included its factory luggage set and was recently serviced with with Porsche Lauzon replacing the thermostat, spark plugs, drive belts, air filters, and an oil change. The car also received the recall to fix the stop-drive just before the start of the auction. Overall, a very nice, low-mileage example of Porsche’s aughties supercar ready to roll with its updates.
Taking into account year, color, miles, luggage, recent service, no paintwork, a clean CarFax, and no aftermarket modifications, the machine learning model pegged this Carrera GT $1,558,178 with a range of $1,252,000 to $1,781,420.
It sold at a final bid of $1,395,000, most likely due to its location in Canada. But being that this is a US car, it should be fairly easy to import back into the states. At that price, I’d have to say this one was slightly well sold, although I’m not too sure what import duties will be if this is coming back stateside.
