2006 Cayman S 6-Speed
Cayman S' are becoming even more attractive as the market softens

Many said they would never build it. A fixed-roof Boxster had the potential to be faster around a track than a 911 due to its mid-engine layout, so making one would be out of the question. But in May of 2005, the conversation was put to rest with the release of the technical details of the first Cayman S. While it wasn’t faster “on paper” than a 911, it was an immediate hit with over 16,000 units built in its first year.
With that many built, several examples are always available in the market. But even with a decent supply, demand has kept these hovering around $30,000 for years. But over the last three months, we’ve started to see a crack in that average price with more nice, lower mileage examples selling below the $30k mark like this 34,000-mile 2006 Cayman S 6-speed.
Finished in Basalt Black Metallic over Black leather, this Cayman S is optioned with 19” Carrera Classic Wheels, Bi-Xenon Headlights, Bose, and Heated Sport Seats. It’s been modified with a Numeric Racing shifter, a microsuede-wrapped steering wheel, an LN Engineering oil pan, and a Kenwood head unit.
It has its original head unit, window sticker, and steering wheel and shows a minor accident on the CarFax and annual maintenance. The car previously sold on Bring a Trailer for $28,888 in November of 2021 when it had 31,000 miles and was lacking modifications. That price was a steal back then, most likely due to the ding on the CarFax. Today’s price is more in line with what we’ve been seeing, although the accident and modifications didn’t affect the final bid as much.
Cayman S’ were attractive at around $30k, and now they are even more attractive as good cars start to inch down to $25k. I honestly don’t see how they could go much lower than that, as there’s not much I’d rather drive for $25k. This is a market I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on.
