2007 Cayman S 6-Speed

Porsche's mid-engine hard-top is starting to look very attractive

Back when I was selling new Porsche in the aughties, speculation ran wild about whether or not Porsche would produce a hard-top Boxster, with many thinking it was just a pipe dream as Porsche would never produce a car that had the potential to rival the 911. But we had our answer in 2004 when Porsche unveiled the all-new Cayman, which was slotted price-wise right between the Boxster and 911, giving us a mid-engined coupe with Boxster power.

This 2007 Cayman S 6-Speed is one such first-generation example and is finished in Lago Green Metallic over a Sand Beige leather interior. This 40,500-mile example came equipped with Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package Plus, Aluminum Look Spoiler Lips, Interior Trim in Lago Green Metallic, and 19” Turbo wheels.

The paint appears to be in average condition showing some minor stone chips on the front bumper and hood, pretty much what you would expect for the mileage. It does show an incident on the CarFax indicating minor front end damage but there is no other information or paint meter readings to confirm all that was repaired. The car was maintained very well and the seller had a full PPI done including pictures of computer readouts and a check for bore scoring.

Prices for 987 Cayman S have been hovering over the $30,000 mark for quite some time, but recently dropped below that mark over the last twelve months, averaging just above $28,000. Comps around 40,000 miles have seen bids anywhere between a low of $19,000 to a high sale $39,000 back in July of this year. But the majority have been average or below.

For the third time in the last year, our Spotlight car has failed to sell, this time at a final bid of $21,987 after high bids of $19,000 and $24,000 in previous sales. I’m thinking that first no-sale bid of $24k seems about right, but it is currently in PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank with a Buy Now of $28,500 and a current offer of $25k. Take that 25 and call it a day.
