2008 Boxster S Design Edition 2 6-Speed

A unicorn among Boxsters

Introduced for the 2008 model year, Porsche’s Boxster S Design Edition 2 was an exclusive model with only 500 units produced worldwide and featured a distinctive Carrara White paint scheme with Gray racing stripes, complemented by Carrara White 20” SportDesign wheels. Inside, the cabin was adorned with Black leather accented by Carrara White details on the dashboard, center console, and instrument dials, for a premium and “bespoke” feel.

Of the 500 units produced, only 50 came to North America with this 2008 Boxster S Design Edition 2 6-Speed being one of them. With just over 24,000 miles on the odometer, this example looked to be in nice condition from the limited number of pictures in the gallery. But being that Mecum is more of an in-person auction, this is to be expected.

With only 50 examples here in the US, comps for Design Edition 2s are few and far between. The last sale I have on record was $41,000 for a 6,000-mile example sold in August 2023, and before that, a no-sale of $30,000 for a Tiptronic example with 39k in April of 2022.

Against the standard 987.1 Boxster S market, that 6k-mile car sold at quite the premium back in the day. A good $10,000 over what a run-of-the-mill car would have brought. These days, normal comps with similar mileage to our Spotlight car are in the high $20s. So for our Design Edition 2 to sell at $40,700 inclusive of buyer’s fee, I’d say that was pretty strong. Imagine what that 6k-mile example would sell for now.
