2011 911 GT3
Records were meant to be broken
2011 marked the end of the Mezger-era GT cars, with the standard 997.2 GT3 receiving the 435 horsepower 3.8-liter flat-six of Hans’ swan song. Along with the enlarged engine, dot-two upgrades included revised bodywork with a modified rear spoiler, dynamic engine mounts, and an optional front-axle lift system. 1,500 examples were sold worldwide, roughly 1/3 of those coming to the US. So, while it’s not the rarest of the GT3s, they don’t exactly cross the auction block every day.
Today’s Spotlight car, this 2011 911 GT3, is part of DriverSources’s Oktmotorfest Collection, a selection of 21 unique vehicles celebrating German automakers. Finished in Paint-to-Sample Riviera Blue over Black leather, this 14,000-mile GT3 features the Sound Package Plus, Sport Chrono Package without PCM, an Alcantara trim strip switch panel, a center console painted in Riviera Blue, and an Aluminum Footrest.
A Shark Werks exhaust system, 19” Vorsteiner wheels, hard-back Sport Seats, and various interior trim pieces painted in Riviera Blue are not from the factory but tasteful additions to an already beautiful car. As you can imagine, the car is immaculate inside and out. It has a binder full of service records, all books and accessories, a Porsche Classic Technical certificate, and even a can of Riviera Blue Backdrop house paint because why not?
The 997.2 GT3 market has shown signs of increasing strength lately, with several high sales across all mileage ranges. But nothing like the $278,993 paid for our Spotlight car, which set a new five-year high by over $50,000 despite having 10,000 miles more than the previous record holder. I really love Riviera Blue, but the buyer REALLY REALLY loved it. Well sold for now until the rest of the pack catches up.
