2012 Cayman R 6-Speed

A little oops on the CarFax kept bids at bay

The 2012 Porsche Cayman R debuted at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show as a lighter, sharper version of the already well-regarded Cayman S. Porsche trimmed 121 pounds by stripping out unnecessary weight—removing the radio and A/C (though both could be added back), fitting lightweight aluminum doors, and using a fixed rear spoiler. It also gained 10 horsepower over the Cayman S, bringing the total to 330 hp from its 3.4-liter flat-six. Combined with a lower ride height and stiffer suspension, the Cayman R delivered one of the most focused driving experiences in the 987 lineup.

This 2012 Cayman R 6-Speed came finished in Black with Silver accents over a Black leather interior and showed just 7,000 miles on the odometer. The car looked to be in nice condition overall, but did show a “moderate” accident on the CarFax, which resulted in work to the right rear of the car as evidenced by paint meter readings in the gallery. Also included in the gallery was a recent DME report along with a handful of service records.

The market for 987.2 Cayman Rs has been looking softer lately with bids falling since May of last year to sit at a sub-$60k average today, something we haven’t seen in a number of years. But our Spotlight car jumped that average back up, selling at a final bid of $65,000. With 7k on the clock, it would have seen more had it not had the accident on the CarFax. Fair deal though for what it was.
