2016 911 R

Rough day for even the rarest 911s

The 2016 Porsche 911 R was limited to just 991 units and combined the high-revving 500 horsepower engine from a 911 GT3 RS with a purist’s 6-speed manual transmission during a time when Porsche decided to only offer GT cars with PDK. Because of this, the 911 R became an instant collectible, even when Porsche brought back the manual transmission for GT cars and introduced the GT3 “Touring” in a similar wingless spec.

This 2016 911 R is finished in White with Green stripes over a Tarpan Brown and Black leather interior with Houndstooth seat inserts. It sports 20” Center-lock GT3 wheels, PCCB brakes, Sport Chrono Package, a Front-Axle Lift System, and more and shows just 957 miles on the odometer.

The car is in impeccable condition inside and out as you would expect for such a low mileage example. The car shows just one owner on the CarFax and the seller has provided a DME report along with options list showing an original MSRP of $212,610.

When these first launched back in 2016, prices went to the moon with cars trading hands for over 3x the original MSRP and some dealers even asking almost $1m. Whether they actually got that remains to be seen. Prices came down over the years bottoming at around $300k before coming back up over the last five years to an average of about $470k today.

Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a final bid of $431,000. The latest comps I have are a 5,000-mile car that sold for $375,000 back in December, an 11-mile Racing Yellow example that hammered for $590,000, and a 507-mile car for $481,000. Based on that, I expected this one to at least eclipse $460,000, but as with everything else that ended yesterday, it just wasn’t in the cards.
