2016 911 R

Did a second run produce a winning bid for this rare R?

Porsche’s 911 R is a purist’s dream, blending the exhilarating 4.0-liter RS flat-six engine from the GT3 RS with a six-speed manual gearbox which was absent from both the GT3 and GT3 RS of the era. By forgoing large aerodynamic add-ons and stripping unnecessary weight through the use of carbon-fiber, magnesium, and aluminum components, the 911 R was a lightweight, high-revving, analog masterpiece that captured the spirit of Porsche’s most iconic “driver’s” 911s.

This 2016 911 R came finished in White with Green racing stripes over a Tarpan Brown leather interior with Houndstooth inserts. With just 993 miles on the odometer, the car presented in near-perfect condition as seen in the hundreds of photos in the gallery and came well-equipped from the factor with LED headlights in Black, Front Axle Lift, Sport Chrono Package, and lots of extra leather for an original MSRP of $212,610.

At launch, 911 Rs commanded a heavy premium with asking prices more than triple MSRP. But prices soon faded hitting a low of just over $300k in 2019 before coming back up to average at around $475,000 today thanks to some recent-ish sales just shy of $600k for delivery-mile examples. Our Spotlight car is no stranger to the auction world as we last saw it in May of this year when it failed to sell at a high bid of $431,000. This time around it didn’t do much better as it failed to sell yet again at $425,760 but has a “Buy Now” of $475,000 in PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank. Makes me think non-delivery-mileage Rs are starting to get a little soft with S/Ts on the loose now.
