2019 935
A new record for a truly limited modern-day Moby Dick
Unveiled at Rennsport Reunion VI in 2018, the 935/19 was a track-only homage to Porsche’s legendary 935 race car. Based on the 991 GT2 RS, the 935/19 featured dramatic bodywork with an elongated “whale tail,” “flat-nose” front end, and a large 75.2-inch wide rear wing.
Inside, the 935/19 featured a carbon-fiber racing steering wheel from the 911 GT3 R, a full roll-cage, a Recaro race seat (singular), and six-point racing harnesses. The engine from the GT2 RS remained untouched, and the car retained ABS and PSM but included the option to disengage the system entirely. Other race-car accouterments include an FIA safety fuel cell, a lightweight lithium-ion battery, and wing mirrors from the 911 RSR.
This 2019 935/19 is the 49th of the 77 examples built and is finished in the history livery of the 1979 24 Hours of Daytona-winning Interscope Racing livery. It comes with the optional Spare Parts Package and shows just 90 miles on the odometer.
With only 77 units built, these don’t often come up for auction. The first car to sell in the US brought $1,462,500 at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach sale in 2022, and the second saw $1,600,000 at RM Monterey this summer. Our Spotlight car continued that upward trend, selling at a final bid of $1,626,000 after the seller lifted the reserve at $1.6m. As one of Porsche’s truly limited recent collectibles, I feel the only direction is up from here. I’m guessing we’ll have to wait until Monterey next summer to see if I’m right.
