2020 718 GT4 Clubsport Competition

How much of a premium would you pay for air jacks?

At launch in 2019, the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport was offered in two variants: Competition and Trackday. Both versions received a destroked road-spec GT4 engine, welded-in roll cage, racing bucket seat with six-point harnesses, the front suspension from a 911 GT3 Cup, racing brakes, lightweight forged wheels with racing slicks, and composite bodywork featuring a swan-neck rear wing.

The two variants differ, with the Competition receiving 3-way adjustable shock absorbers, a 115-liter fuel cell, the ability to adjust brake balance, a lightweight battery, a fire extinguisher system, a quick-release steering wheel, and a three-piston air jack system. At the same time, the Trackday is equipped with fixed shock absorbers, an 80-liter fuel cell, and a handheld fire extinguisher.

Our Spotlight car, the 2020 718 GT4 Clubsport pictured above, is a Competition version. In addition to the standard equipment, the car features a Hydra Motor Works Stage 2 ECU map and Cargraphic over-axle pipe set. It also includes an extra set of wheels, three additional sets of tires, replacement brake parts, and the original factory exhaust pipes. The seller, who put most of the 2,700 miles on the car, stated that the car was his DE car and never raced.

The majority of GT4 Clubsports we’ve seen have been Trackday cars. These cars have recently been trading in the $150-200k range, with a delivery-mileage Manthey Racing-built example selling for $240k. The only other Competition car was a 15,000-mile Manthey Racing-built example that failed to sell at a high bid of $148,000.

Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $214,000, a premium over similar Trackday cars but a premium that makes sense with the extra equipment offered by the Competition. I’d imagine most Competition cars have seen wheel-to-wheel racing, so to find one that is a “virgin” seems like a good buy to me. Plus, who wouldn’t pay a premium to pull into the pits at their local DE and hit those air jacks?
