Why Did This 50th Anniversary Sell Towards The Bottom Of The Market?

Good Morning! So close! Basically, one sale away from the million-dollar mark, unless it was the 2005 Cayenne Turbo that failed to sell for $4,400 over on Marqued Auctions.

Introduced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 911’s introduction, the 2014 911 50th Anniversary Edition was a one-of-a-kind variant of the 991 limited to just 1,963 units worldwide. The car was based on the 911 Carrera S but featured the wider body of the Carrera 4S and special 20” “Fuchs” alloy wheels. Only three colors were available: Geyser Grey, Graphite Grey, and Black with an interior featuring Pepita seat inserts, green instrument dials, and white instrument needles as a throw-back to cars of Porsche’s past.

The market for the 50th Anniversary is very spec dependent with 6-speed cars typically commanding a premium of about $10,000 over those optioned with PDK and Geyser Grey over Pepita cars selling at the peaks of the market.

Today’s Spotlight car, this 2014 911 50th Anniversary, is finished in Graphite Grey and optioned with the PDK transmission and Black leather interior without the Pepita inserts. Basically, three options that don’t command top dollar as reflected in the $100,500 selling price.

Had this been a Geyser Grey car with Pepita or even a Black example I believe we would have seen a $15-20k bump in price, even with the PDK transmission. That being said, the buyer bought a special car with design cues you won’t find on any other 911 model. For $100k I think that both buyer and seller made out with a solid deal.
