Porsche 914/6 Price Update
Good Morning! We made it! After a 4 am wake-up call and sitting on the tarmac at JFK for over an hour in “plane traffic”, we made it to Amelia Island just in time for the sale at Bonhams.

SPOTLIGHT
It was the end of the auction day at Bonhams, and quite a few chairs were empty as some bidders had left for other festivities around Amelia Island. Not the setting that I would expect for a bidding war to erupt over the 1971 Porsche 914/6 picture above that sold for a 5-year auction high of $148,400 all-in.
The last two 6s to fetch over $100k were both orange as well. Maybe it’s the color? Very 70s. Most recently this 1970 example sold for $119,146 and this 1971 914/6 sold for $112,011 back in October of 2022. So why did our Spotlight car blow both of these sales out of the water?
Well, the car was in stunning condition. Matching numbers and Signal Orange from new, fully restored sometime between 2012 and 2017, fully sorted after that, and ownership at one point by Chip Ganassi. The car definitely had a lot going for it.
But it wasn’t perfect. A small tear in the front bumper plastic, imperfect chrome, faded rubber around windows, and rust bubbled on each of the front fenders. For $150,000 in today’s market, I’d be looking for a fresh, no-expense-spared restoration done to a Concours level. This wasn’t that car, but it brought the money for it. Well sold. The market is looking strong after Day 1 of Amelia.
