964 America Roadsters Remain Strong
Good Morning! Monterey auction action starts today with Mecum, Broad Arrow, and RM Sothebys sales. Expect a special Sunday edition of SML after the final hammer falls Saturday evening at Gooding & Co.
Yesterday brought a solid sell-through rate thanks to every car bid over $100k finding a new home—a stark contrast to Tuesday.

Yes, I know, two 964 Cabiolets back-to-back. But this one is quite special as it is one of only 250 turbo-bodies America Roadsters produced for the U.S. market between 1992 and 1993. Built as a driver-focused convertible, the America Roadster not only featured fender flares from the Turbo but also received Turbo brakes, suspension, and wheels while keeping the standard engine and drivetrain from the Carrera 2.
This 1992 911 America Roadster 5-Speed is finished in Black Metallic over Cashmere Beige & Black partial leather and comes with only 20,483 miles on the odometer, with the only upgrades being Speedline-style 18” wheels and aftermarket stereo. It is presented in phenomenal condition, as you can see from the many photos, and comes with its original tire inflation kit, all books, and a complete set of keys.
Just like yesterday’s 964 Cab., the America Roadster didn’t see the COVID-pop, instead remaining steady until the last twelve months, where we haven’t seen a single example sell for under $100k. This America Roadster sold yesterday on PCARMARKET at a final bid of $120,000, just shy of a few recent sales of 50k-mile examples at $126,000. Those cars were finished in a much rarer shade of Amethyst Metallic, though.
Still, with only 20,000 miles, I’d say this one was well-bought. Sure, Black Metallic was the most popular color, but the condition and history of this one will be hard to replicate.
