Was This 964 Stolen Or Was The Price Paid On Point?

Good Morning! Interestingly, out of the 5 cars that ended yesterday on Bring a Trailer that was previously purchased there, only one sold. Even more interesting, Bring a Trailer removed the “Alumni” tag from the listing tiles last night after all of the cars ended. 🤔 Reply with your best conspiracy theories!

Over the past year, the average price for a manual 964 Coupe has risen by around $12,000. Over the last four years? A 40% increase in price made the 964 a solid investment over the last few years, especially if you had a stock one with low mileage like the 1990 911 Coupe 5-sp above.

Finished in Guards Red over Black, this example has only 26,000 miles on the odometer, but as I mentioned last week when this car first came up for sale, that’s about all it has going for it.

It was purchased by the selling dealer last year and is noted as needing four new tires and having a dent in the rear quarter panel as well as a cracked rear light lens. The interior is a little worn for the mileage in my opinion with a tear in the headliner, and the engine and undercarriage could use some detailing.

It sold yesterday on Bring a Trailer for $97,000, about $40,000 lower than what examples with similar mileage have sold for in the last 12 months. A little effort here could have gone a long way, especially with such a disparity in price. Replace the tires and rear lens, fix the dent and headliner, dry-ice blast the engine and undercarriage, and pay a professional photographer to document every inch of the car, and the seller probably could have pocketed an extra $30k had paint and mechanicals checked out.

Hopefully, they do and the buyer can make this car the low-mileage piece of perfection it could potentially be. Well bought if you ask me.
