Are GT4 Prices About To Go On A Run?
Good Morning! And what a morning it is. Yesterday’s auction action produced one heck of a sell-through rate and $1.5 million in sales. But the real highlight for me was seeing all of those first referrals come through, thank you! I really appreciate all of the support.
There’s also some news on the SML team front. To help keep me from making mistakes like the “Sold” GT4 RS the other day and using “infamous” instead of “famous” when talking about Fuchs yesterday, I’ve decided to bring on an Editor who will start with our Monday edition.

Rumors of the end of the line for Porsche’s Cayman GT4 have been swirling around for a while. Recently, those rumors have been confirmed with both the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder ending with model year 2023. That puts final production right around the beginning of Q3 2023, so if you don’t already have an allocation, your chances of securing a new one are slim to none.
So how will this news affect pricing on the pre-owned market? If the sale of this 2016 Cayman GT4 is any indication, be prepared to pay up. Since September, only one 981 generation GT4 has surpassed the $100,000 mark and that was a highly modified example that sold for $126,000. Before that, the highest sale in the last 12 months was for a 3,500-mile Dark Blue Metallic example at $127,000.
Our Spotlight car sold for $107,100 yesterday on Bring a Trailer. It is finished in Jet Black Metallic over Black Leather & Alcantara and is highly optioned with an MSRP of $115,110 which included options such as PCCBs, Sport Chrono, PCM, and more. This 8,000-mile car was presented with almost 300 photos showing a meticulous exterior, interior, and underbody. The seller had a couple of service records, a clean CarFax, and clean paint meter readings. The only missing was a DME report.
With so many recent sales sub-$100k, one would say this was well-sold. While the seller was the third owner and probably made a few bucks on this sale, I’m going with well-bought here. The car has all of the right options, is ridiculously clean, especially for a Black car, and I think there is going to be room for prices to run as news of the GT4s demise starts really hitting people. These are cars we’ll all be kicking ourselves for not buying at the bottom. I know I am.
