A Rare Opportunity For a 993 RSR

Porsche’s 993 Cup 3.8 RSR was the final air-cooled, naturally aspirated 911 race car produced by its famed Weissach motorsports department for entry into endurance events worldwide. These rare (45 total) cars featured a 340 HP engine, full-on racing interior with Recaro seats, and track-tuned suspension with air jacks, among other components you’d expect from a purpose-built Porsche race car.
This 1997 911 Cup 3.8 RSR is a museum-quality example, as it was never raced. Instead, it spent time in many prominent collections, including Jerry Seinfeld, from whom the current owner purchased the car in 2016. This time capsule is a very rare car and as perfect as they get having never seen action on a track.
The market for 993 RSRs is hard to dictate, with only three comps over the past five years. Of those three, only one found a home at a price of roughly $900,000 back in July 2021. That example was another car that never saw track use but had 14,000km on it at the time of sale. With half that mileage, our Spotlight car made a high bid of $861,500, failing to sell.
This, indeed, was a rare opportunity to pick up an extraordinary car and, with its province and presentation, should have brought more. That said, the car is being offered in PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank for $1,100,000. A fair price if you ask me.
