From July 2021 to July 2022, the average price for 993 Turbos increased from $150k to $190k, but for the last twelve months, prices have only increased about $15,000 to an average price of $206,000 today. Cars over that line are typically either low mileage or have a mix of special options or colors that are rare and desirable.

Today’s Spotlight car, this 80,000km (~49,000-mile) German market 1997 911 Turbo, falls into that special option category… sort of. It did receive some special options from the factory, such as factory 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels, a limited-slip differential, sunroof delete, and several Sonderwunsch options like the Carbon Fiber Interior Package. But what really sets this car apart is the WLS2 Powerkit.

The WLS2 Powerkit option (XLC) upgraded your standard Turbo to Turbo S specification and was only available to the rest of the world (RoW). It included larger K24 turbochargers, an additional oil cooler, an optimized twin-pipe sports exhaust, and an upgraded Motronic engine control unit.

As you would imagine, WLS2 cars command a premium in the 993 Turbo market, especially here in the US, where the option wasn’t originally available. But our Spotlight car didn’t come with the package from the factory, it was upgraded to this specification by Freisinger Motorsports of Germany back in 2014.

Still, this Arctic Silver over Boxster Red Special Leather car sold for a strong $237,993 on PCARMARKET. The condition of the car definitely played a part in this number, as it was very clean and well-documented, and the factory options didn’t hurt either. Had the car been an original WLS2, there might have been an extra $10k here. Maybe. Either way, a great number for a great car. This one goes to both parties.
