997 Turbo Cabriolet Market

This auction is timely, considering I spent yesterday morning recording a podcast with the PCARMARKET crew discussing the 997 Tubro Market. We dove into the stark difference between the dot-one and dot-two cars and the effect that manuals have, as the dot-two was the last production Turbo to offer a 6-speed. The episode should be up in the next few days. I’ll be sure to share the link.

Today’s Spotlight car, this 2008 911 Turbo Cabriolet 6-Speed is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over Natural Brown leather with a Metropol Blue soft top. It is nicely optioned with a sport shifter, Bose, and PCM navigation and only 20,000 miles. The seller noted that the left door was replaced after another car hit it while open, and as you can see in the photos, it is missing a small trim piece.

The manual 997.1 Turbo Cabriolets market has been relatively flat over the last twelve months after a sharp price rise from early 2020 until last summer. Over the previous year, average pricing has hovered around $88,000, with a high sale of $141,000 for a gorgeous and rare Malachite Green Metallic example with 19,000 miles. Most ~20k-mile examples, however, have been in the mid-$80s to $100k range.

Our Spotlight car sold at a high bid of $86,500 yesterday on Bring a Trailer, representing the lower end of the market. Although the car featured paint meter readings in the listing, a DME report would have helped. But the driver’s side door replacement and quite a bit of interior wear for a 20k-mile car most likely kept this one in the $80s.

That said, the wear can be addressed, and this car can look new for a bit of money. For me, this 997 Turbo was well bought as prices will start to rise again as more people realize the specialness of the last Turbo Mezger with a 6-speed.
