This 997 Turbo Cabriolet Should Have Been a Record

Good Morning! While this was our second day in a row with a dollar volume of less than half a million dollars, the real surprise was the drop in sell-through rate from just over 80% down to 55%. Let’s hope it doesn’t stay there.

Updated for the 2010 model year, Porsche’s 997.2 Turbo was upgraded with the GT2’s intake manifold, new software for the all-wheel-drive system, and updated suspension for improved handling. The PDK transmission was also new and offered optional paddles instead of buttons as seen on the standard Carrera’s steering wheel. This new PDK transmission would prove popular outselling manual transmission cars by a wide margin. Little did we know then that this would be the last 911 Turbo offered with a standard 6-speed and three pedals.

Our Spotlight car, this 2010 911 Turbo Cabriolet is one such car equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Finished in GT Silver over Black leather, it features heated front seats and steering wheel; most notably the Sport Chrono Package, which allows the Turbo to over-boost temporarily increasing peak torque. With only 2,900 miles on the odometer, this Turbo is as clean as they come with a clean CarFax, paint meter readings, and DME report.

Manual Turbo Cabriolets have seen a meteoric rise recently as they are rare as hen's teeth with only two cars selling in the US this past year at $157,000 and $235,000 for a 3,600-mile example. In comparison, PDK-equipped cars are more prevalent and priced as such with an average price of $92,000 and a top sale of only $102,000 for an example with roughly 22,000 miles.

With lower miles than our top sale, one would have expected a new record for this 997.2 Turbo Cabriolets. But this Turbo was only bid to $172,000 and failed to sell. Rightfully so, as I don’t see the market for the last of the 6-speed turbos slowing down anytime soon. I’m sure we’ll see this one again.
