A New High For a Rare Boxster

Good Morning! Well, at least our sell-through rate didn’t dip any lower, but it’s still nowhere near our average in the low 70s. Dollar volume did well as we topped $1m thanks to a number of $100k sales.

In other news, I joined David and Jim over at PCARMARKET for another Inside The Market podcast. This time we discussed the 356 markets and touched on that 907K I featured a few weeks ago, which ended up finding a home via PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank. You can check the episode out HERE.

SPOTLIGHT

This 2009 Boxster S Design Edition 2 is one of only 500 examples produced worldwide and one of only 32 brought here to the U.S. The Design Edition 2 featured a “white-out” paint scheme with Carrera White paint and matching White 19” wheels and features Grey Porsche Design stripes along the top and sides of the exterior. The interior is finished in Black leather with white gauge faces giving a nice contrast to all that white. Power-wise, the car had a bump in horsepower to 299 thanks to a free-flowing exhaust system.

Our Spotlight car is in excellent condition, as you expect for a car with only 6,000 miles and comes with all books and original window sticker and has been maintained religiously by the previous owner.

For such a limited car, this is the fourth Design Edition 2 we’ve seen at auction out of the 14 987 Boxster S’ with automatic transmissions in the past five years. However, this is the first U.S. example ever to sell. Average pricing for your normal Boxster S automatic has been just shy of $30,000, although prices have started to dip since a five-year high of $28,800 in November of last year.

The last Design Edition 2 to sell was a European example that sold for roughly $35,000 (€32,500) with 85,667 miles on the odometer, and the only U.S. comp we have is a high bid of $30,000 for a 39,200-mile example offered for sale in April of 2022. With only 6,000 miles, the $41,000 paid here seems like a pretty good deal, even at a five-year high. Well bought for what I think is a very good-looking car.
