A New Record For A 911 Commemorative Edition
The 1988 911 Commemorative Edition was launched to celebrate the 250,000th Porsche 911. Available in Coupe, Cabriolet, or Targa body styles, the Commemorative Edition was finished in a unique color of Diamond Blue Metallic over with color-matched Fuchs wheels and a Silver Blue Metallic leather interior. Of the 875 examples built, only 300 were imported to the US, with 120 of them being Coupes, like the 1988 911 Commemorative Edtion we have here.
Our Spotlight car has only 24,000 miles on the odometer and is in excellent condition, represented by over 300 pictures in the photo gallery. The paint shows minor wear and is all original, as shown by the paint meter readings. The engine bay and undercarriage are spotless, and the interior is nearly perfect. It comes with tools, books, and a special Commemorative Edition coin.
Everything you’d want from a collector standpoint is present in this example: Very low miles, no paintwork, and service records since new. That’s why it is no surprise that this example fetched the highest price we’ve seen for a Commemorative Edition at a final bid of $140,000. In another five years, I think many of us will wish we snatched this one up at that price.
