A Solid Flip For A Backdated 1984 Carrera 3.2
Good Morning! The market seems to be back to where it was before that nice run of million-dollar days. It should be a strong weekend as we’ll be covering sales from the UK Historics Ascot Racecourse. And FYI for those new to the newsletter, we only report cars that are eligible for import from the European sales.
I hope your weekend is filled with egg hunts, family, friends, and some time behind the wheel. And Happy Easter.

Backdated cars tend to be hit or miss at auction. Typically it comes down to the donor car and the build quality, with extra points for a noted builder. The 1984 911 Coupe above was completed in 2015 and backdated using a fiberglass hood, bumpers, ducktail rear decklid, and sunroof delete. Painted in Silver with black vinyl script, the car sits on aftermarket 17” Fuchs-style wheels. Inside, the car features black leather fixed bucket seats, racing harnesses, door panels, and a Prototipo steering wheel. The normal fixings of your typical 911 backdate.
But what really sets this particular project apart from others is under the rear decklid. Powering this ‘84 911 is a 3.4-liter flat-six built by noted engine builder Heights Auto Imports. It features upgraded JE pistons, JB racing cylinder heads, ARB rod bolts, PMO carbs, and a Patrick Motorsports twin-plug ignition system.
Pricewise, your typical 911 Carrera 3.2 averages $77,000 with the occasional car touching the $150k mark. So for our Spotlight car to sell for $142,000 is completely reasonable and in line with the market, especially for a build of this quality. And try recreating it for anything near that with your average 3.2. Not gonna happen. That being said, this one is not only well-bought but also well-sold as the seller purchased the car off Bring a Trailer for $90,000 in 2018.
