Almost a 911 3.2 Carrera Record

Good Morning! March definitely went out like a lion with a dollar volume just over $2m. That’s a good look as we head into spring with Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach sale and Bonhams Good Members’ Meeting auctions mid-month.

SPOTLIGHT

Photos sell cars. Period. Long-time readers have seen the effects of a beautifully photoed, well-documented car. It can mean the difference between a new record price or leaving $20,000 on the table.

Now I’m not just talking about beauty shots with cars in urban background or done in full-blown photo studios either. Those help, but fully documenting a car via photo and video. Close up shots of every panel, sometimes pointing out the minor flaws mentioned in the description. Shots of all paperwork, service records, accessories that came with the car, shots of the undercarriage and engine bay, and paint meter readings. These are all important in telling a compelling story to bidders and marketing the car.

And I haven’t seen a better job of the above than this 1988 911 3.2-liter Coupe, today’s Spotlight car. With over 200 photos and 5 videos bidders got an idea of just how incredibly nice this 26,000-mile Black over Black example truly is. Yes, there are plenty of shots like the above in the gallery, but also every inch of the car fully documented including the insides of the wheels.

Over the last twelve months low mileage 3.2-liter 911s have sold in the $90-$140,000 range with the lowest mileage example, a Guards Red car with 5,400 miles selling for $136,000. Our Spotlight car sold yesterday for $151,000, the second highest price paid for a 3.2 Carrera in the past year and $11,000 more than others with similar mileage.

The seller put the effort in and the bidders rewarded them with an excellent result. Well-sold.
