Good Morning! Just looking at the weekend’s high Unit Volume, you would’ve thought dollar volume would have been approaching $2m. But with only one car selling for over $100k, our dollar volume just barely crept past the million-dollar mark.

Introduced in 1966 as a more powerful variant of the base 911, the 911S had the same displacement as the Base 2.0-liter engine but was tuned for 30 more HP. The S was distinguished from the base by Fuchs alloy wheels, upgraded brakes, and a rear anti-roll bar.
While production numbers are varied depending on who you ask, somewhere around 1,800 911S Coupes were built in 1967 making this a relatively rare and sought-after variant of the 911. And unlike modern cars with similar production numbers, 56 years of use and sometimes abuse has weeded this number down as we rarely see an early 911S come up for sale.
Today’s Spotlight car is a very nice numbers-matching example sporting an older restoration in Aga Blue over Black leatherette. The restoration presents beautifully and the car features many period-correct (though not original to the car) options such as Hella foglights and headlights, and a Webasto gas heater. Originally a US car, it has been in Germany for the last twelve years and is where it is being sold for this auction.
In the last twelve months, we’ve seen only seven examples cross the block with six finding new homes. Average pricing is above $200k with a high of $335,000 for a 29,000-mile original car and a low of $72,777 for a project needing lots of love.
Our Spotlight car sold just below average for $190,000 yesterday on Bring a Trailer. Looks wise, this could have been a $200k+ car had it been offered for sale here Stateside. But being that it was in Germany, the softer European market plus the cost of getting the car here to the US and the unwillingness of many US buyers to purchase sight unseen from Europe kept this one on the lower end of the spectrum for excellent examples.
