Considered the second generation of the basic 911 model, the 911SC launched in 1978 with more weight, luxury equipment, safety equipment, and emissions equipment which put a damper on performance, especially for the de-tuned US cars. Never on top of the 911 food chain and produced in high numbers, the 911SC languished for years in “used car” pricing territory with many cars modified for better or worse.

But a rising tide lifts all boats and 911SCs have lifted into the $40-80k range quite consistently with the typical outliers for beat projects and perfect specimens.

Today’s Spotlight car is a 1980 911SC finished in Light Blue Metallic over Black leather and has 115,000 miles on the odometer. It was optioned with 16” Fuchs alloy wheels, a sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a/c, power windows, and a Blaupunkt radio.

The car was purchased by the selling dealer last year and they went right to work rebuilding the engine, brake calipers, and more to the tune of over $30,000. The car shows prior paintwork on the front fenders and hood, but there is no mention of accident history.

After a slew of bidding and the final “ok” from the winning bidder’s wife, our Spotlight car set a new record for 911SCs at $105,000. Even with the paintwork, even with 115,000 miles, this is the first SC to cross into six-figure territory. Was this a one-off or a look into what’s to come for the SC market?
