A New Record For This 928S
Good Morning! Our sell-through rate was hit with a hump-day slump yesterday as we’re back down into the 60s. But that didn’t stop bidders from setting a new 5-year record on our Spotlight car.

Even as far back as 1971 Porsche was considering its options regarding replacing their flagship model, the 911. Fueled by the oil crisis and slumping 911 sales of the mid-70s, the writing looked to be on the wall with grand touring cars as Porsche’s future.
Enter the 928. Launched in the last ‘70s, the car featured a large front-mounted V8 engine, 2+2 seating, and a large boot making it the ideal range-topping grand tourer Porsche envisioned. Over the decades the 928 evolved through many iterations ending production in 1995 with the GTS model.
Our Spotlight car, this 1985 928S, is finished in a lovely shade of Moss Green Metallic paint over Green leather and is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, 16” phone dial wheels, and has only 12,000 kilometers (~8k miles) on the clock. As you would expect for such a low-mileage car, this 928S is in phenomenal condition. The paint, interior, and undercarriage are impeccable and the car includes books, factory literature, and a recent handful of service records.
And as you would expect, it sold for a hefty price tag at $108,000, about 4x the average sales price we’ve seen for 928S’ and a new 5-year record. Chances are we’ll never see another 928S like this one again. A rare color combination along with the condition and miles make this one a unicorn well deserving of the price paid. Both parties should be happy with the price, but I think the buyer came out on top here as they now have one of the best 928s we’ve seen, or ever will see.
