930 Turbo Cabriolet Market Update

Introduced for the 1987 model year, the 930 Turbo Cabriolet debuted alongside the Turbo Targa in addition to the already popular Coupe variant. Proving ever so popular, the open-top Turbo would continue until the end of the 930s in 1989.

Our Spotlight car, the 1988 911 Turbo Cabriolet pictured above, is finished Guards Red over Champagne LEatehr with a Black top and 16” staggered-width Fuchs Alloy Wheels with painted centers. The car has been modified with an aftermarket turbocharger, revised camshafts, and a Billy Boat exhaust system and shows 76,000 miles.

This Turbo has been in its seller’s care for the last 21 years and appears to be in reasonably good condition from the limited number of photos provided. The only paintwork is said to be on one of the doors from a parking lot incident twenty years ago. The interior is clean, and the engine bay and undercarriage look as they should for a car with this mileage. It comes with a complete set of books, including dealer service stamps, and a stack of service receipts, the most recent being for tires and dry-ice blasting.

The market for 3.3-liter 930s has seen a slight rise in the last few months after dipping earlier this year. Comps put this car in the mid to upper $130s, about average for prices paid during the previous twelve months. This Turbo hammered at $140,000, on the higher side of comps and a new peak for the mileage.

Had the seller put more effort into the listing, they could have seen another $5,000 here. It was light on the pictures, lacked paint meter readings, and didn’t feature a recent service receipt, as we all know these things need servicing. Still, I think both parties should be happy with the price paid. It's a fair deal all around.
