A 964 Cabriolet For Almost Double 2019's Sale Price

Good Morning! Yeah, Monday was hard to follow, but our results could have been better, as only one car sold above $100k. There were plenty of opportunities, but I guess people’s bidder fingers were tired from the day before.

If you’ve been playing with Porsches long enough, you’ve racked up several “could have,” “should have,” and “would have’s” along the way. And after yesterday’s 1990 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet 5-Speed sale, the underbidder from 2019’s $39,911 sale put that notch in their belt. What’s even more entertaining are some of the comments from that auction. “Average deal, Cabs just do not sell unless under $40,000.” “These cars take a big hit if a Cab.” But that was then, and this is now.

While most Porsche examples saw an immediate spike post-COVID, 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolets remained steady from 2019 until the fall of 2021, with an average price hovering just shy of $40,000. From there, though, we’ve seen steady gains over the last 18 months, with that average increasing by about $12,000.

But today’s Spotlight car beat that average as it has remained in remarkable condition over the last five years. Finished in Grand Prix White over Black leather, the car features 16” Design 90 alloy wheels and has only 29,000 miles on the odometer, just 1,200 more than when it was previously sold. During their stewardship, the owner did put some money into the car as they’ve replaced convertible top components, a windshield washer pump, a voltage regulator, and stereo components, making this example ready to be enjoyed by the next owner.

It sold yesterday for an above-average price of $73,000 thanks to it being the lowest mileage example on offer in the past twelve months and previously mentioned work. While not the highest price paid for a C4 Cab. during that time, this car was still well-sold, as many of us “should have” been looking at these back in 2019.
