A Rare RS Fails To Find A Home

Good Morning! Not a single car sold over $100,000 yesterday after a big weekend where only one car crossed the mark. Granted, only one car had the potential to hit above $100k and at a high bid of $265,000, should have sold. More on that one below.

Based on the 964 Carrera RS, the Carrera RS N/GT was an even more hardcore stripped-out version intended for use in Group N/GT racing. The car was lightened with a blank metal interior and stiffened with a roll cage and featured a long-range fuel tank, integrated fire suppression system, and a few other racecar-specific items. Roughly 290 RS N/GTs were produced making it one of the rarest RS models around.

This 1992 911 Carrera RS N/GT is originally a Belgian car imported by the seller in 2022. It presents extremely well and is said to have never been raced as it was privately owned and mostly used on tours and the occasional track day. Although the exterior of the car was resprayed in 2008, all panels are original to the car and the interior retains all original paint.

With only 290 units produced, comps are few and far between. The last two cars to sell were a Red 42k-mile example which sold at Bonhams’ Retromobile sale two months ago for $259,185 and a 25,000-mile Rubystone Red example which sold for $401,000 out of South Huntington, NY last year.

Our Spotlight car failed to sell yesterday at a high bid of $265,000. Had the car been in any other color than Grand Prix White, maybe we would have seen it cross over the $300k mark. But GP White cars tend to occupy the lower end of the market and the paintwork most likely didn’t help. Maybe the buyer and seller were close and there might be something here post-auction. But $265,000 is pretty much all the money for this particular RS N/GT.
