Are 987 Boxsters Showing Signs of Softening?
Good Morning! While our sell-through rate jumped back up to where we are accustomed to seeing it, dollar volume remained weak for the third day in a row as it sank below $500,000 for the first time in a long time. We’ll see what tomorrow brings though as unit volume is higher with a couple of heavy hitters ending. Fingers crossed for a turn-around.

Making its debut alongside Porsche’s all-new 997 generation 911 at the Paris Motor Show in 2004 was the 987 Boxster. This second-generation Boxster model remained very similar to the first, but began to visually separate it from the flagship 911 with it’s own front-end design, most notably a headlight profile similar to that of Porsche’s mid-engine flagship, the Carrera GT.
While similar to the 986, the 987 Boxster only shared about 20% of its components with its predecessor with the most notable changes being that of the interior. Engine-wise, the new Boxster received a 2.7-liter flat six with 236 hp in the base car with a bump up to 3.2-liters and 276 hp for the S variant. In 2007, the engines both received a revised engine with VarioCam Plus bumping horsepower to 245 and 295 respectively.
Today’s Spotlight car, this 2007 Boxster S 6-Speed is one such VarioCam car. It’s finished in Meteor Grey Metallic with Black leather and has 67,875 miles on the odometer. It’s optioned with Heated Seats, BOSE, and self-dimming mirrors with rain sensors. On the aftermarket side the car has been modified with a Soul Performance sxhaust with long tube headers, cross-flow pipe, high flow cats, and a set of racing pedals.
While it does show minor damage on the CarFax, there is no mention of paintwork and the car looks very clean from the pictures provided. Also provided with the sale are a sleep of service records, all books and keys, as well as all factory parts that were replaced.
The market for 987 Boxster S’ has shown a bit of softening in the last twelve months with the average price dropping around $2,000 and no new highs. Recent comps put this car at around $25,000-27,000 with prices dropping down near $20k for cars with 80,000+ miles.
It sold yesterday at a high bid of $21,000, which could be reflective of the modifications and minor damage on the CarFax. But being that the damage was listed as minor and the modifications were really only to the exhaust system and easily replaced with the provided factory parts, I belive this example represents quite the deal. Well-bought in my opinion.
