A Good Story Could Have Brought More For This 1996 911 Turbo

We see it all of the time in car listings. “This no-stories example.” Typically this means that nothing happened to the car during its life. But sometimes, we need a story. Case in point, this 1996 911 Turbo.

Finished in Polar Silver Metallic over Black Full Leather, today’s Spotlight car has only 39,000 miles and came optioned from the factory with carbon-fiber interior goodies and Sports Seats. It currently rides on 18” Ruf five-spoke wheels and includes an additional set of 18” hollow-spoke Technology wheels and a handful of service records from 2018, 2022, and 2023. It appears to be an immaculate car with plenty of beautiful pictures and paintwork noted on the front bumper.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Although the hood sticker lists a carbon-fiber shifter and handbrake, both are finished in aluminum, as seen in the pictures. Also, Sports Seats came from the factory with power height adjustment, not full power seats as this one has. On the outside, the car has been fitted with a Euro-spec rear bumper and an Aerokit-looking rear wing, and the “Turbo” script adorning the trunk is of the wrong vintage.

All that being said, the car brought solid money at $242,000. But had there been a story about why the interior pieces and rear end of the car had been modified, we would have seen bids closer to the recent highs of around $280,000. I’m sure the new owner will be pleased with a beautiful car, but I’m going well-sold on this one.
