A New 993 Turbo Record

Good Morning! Yup, that blue dollar volume line is off the charts thanks to one car in particular that sold on Bring a Trailer yesterday as part of the Gruppe P collection closing on the 75th Anniversary of Porsche.

And speaking of the 75th Anniversary, as you read this, I’m on my down to Atlanta to celebrate and attend Broad Arrow’s 75th Anniversary Porsche sale on Saturday. If you see me, say hi!

Porsche’s 993 Turbo is the poster car to many, (I mean, who didn’t have a “Kills Bugs Faster” poster on their bedroom wall?) and an icon to others that represents the end of an era as it was the last of the air-cooled turbocharged cars to leave Zuffenhausen. And prices in recent years reflect that! As they have gone from an average price of around $150k to an average of $200k in just three years.

But this 1996 911 Turbo wasn’t going to see anywhere close to $200,000 as it is the second lowest mileage 993 Turbo, we’ve seen cross the block in the last five years. The lowest mileage car, a 1996 example with only 99 miles, sold for $456,000 at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island Auction in 2022.

This 645-mile car is finished in Guards Red over Black Leather and was offered as part of the Gruppe P Collection of special Porsche’s all ending on the 75th Anniversary of the registration of 356 No. 1. As you would expect the car is the prime example of a 993 Turbo and is presented as such in the listing with over 300 pictures and some great videos.

Again, the question wasn’t if it was going to go over $200k, but how much over. And the bidders in the virtual room answered with a new 5-year record of $486,000. Good deal? Too high? I think two bidders got caught up and really, really, really wanted this one. Well sold.
