Another 993 Turbo Fails To Bring The Money

While we see 996 Turbos with the X50 Power Package almost daily, finding a 993 Turbo equipped as such is a much more difficult task, as only a few examples were fitted with the power boost. The X50 package took the Turbos 3.6-liter flat-six and added twin K22 turbochargers, an additional oil cooler, and a revised ECU for a further 30 horsepower increase over the standard Turbo. Not too shabby.

This 1997 911 Turbo X50 was recently imported from Germany and shows roughly 18,000 miles on the odometer. It is finished in Black Metallic Paint with a Black Full Leather interior and comes optioned with not only the X50 package but stainless-steel tailpipes, heated seats, and a leather-covered center console.

The car's exterior is in very good condition but shows some paintwork on the front end. This could've been a respray to rid the front of stone chips or otherwise, and although the seller does not know why it was painted, they verified that the hood and fenders are original.

The car's immaculate interior features a factory Becker-Porsche CDR-21 stereo and Nokia Digital Sound Processing audio system. The frunk and engine bay look clean, although it’s difficult to see much of the latter as the giant intercooler hides most of the engine from the top. On the other hand, the undercarriage could use a bit of detailing.

Recent sales peg 993 Turbos with sub 20,000 miles in the $250-300k range, with average prices still on a slow but steady rise over the last twelve months. X50 cars typically command a bit of a premium due to rarity. Still, unfortunately, that didn’t help this example much as it sold for $215,000, making it the lowest 993 Turbo with under 30k miles to sell in the US in the last twelve months by quite a margin.

Why so low? Well, questions about the previous sale remained unanswered by the seller as the car “sold” a few months ago for $270,000, only to be undone and relisted by BaT without much explanation. Add to that questions about paintwork, and one can see why bidders weren’t as active this time. Should everything pan out for the new owner, though, they got one heck of a deal on an X50 993 Turbo.
