A PTS 997 Carrera 4S Brings The Money

Last week, when I featured this car, I couldn’t wrap my head around why someone would order Polar Silver Metallic as a Paint to Sample color. It’s not that I don’t like the color; I think it is excellent. But soooooo many cars have been painted that hue. Especially 996s. It didn’t seem unique enough to me to warrant the cost.

But there is one key difference between all of the 996s I’ve seen and this 997.2, and that word is “Metallic.” The often-seen 911 color is just Polar Silver, whereas Polar Silver Metallic was a much rarer shade first seen on 964s. Thank you, Rennbow, for the lesson.

This 2011 911 Carrera 4S is finished in Paint to Sample Polar Silver METALLIC over a Sea Blue leather interior. The hint of Blue in the paint goes perfectly with the color of the leather, accented here with a painted center console and PDK gate. Other options include the Sport Chrono Package Plus, PCM navigation, 19” Turbo II wheels, and more for $116,905 when new.

The car is in very nice condition, as seen in the photo gallery, and has just 31,000 miles on the odometer. The CarFax report shows a history of service records and no accidents, although neither service invoices nor paint meter readers are provided in the listing.

It sold at a final bid of $75,750 yesterday on PCARMARKET, a good $6-10,000 higher than comps with similar mileage. Back in 2011, PTS wasn’t as prevalent on the 997 as it is on cars today, and the fact that the original owner chose such a subdued color versus the brighter Blues and Oranges typically seen makes this one even rarer. Although this was a peak in price for mileage, I’d say both buyer and seller did well here. Lovely car.
