Mileage Be Damned, This Was The 997 Turbo To Buy

Good Morning! The best part about writing a newsletter about Porsches every day? The people I’ve met. Thanks to the Pittsburgh SML crew for the dinner and a car tour last night!

Market-wise, man, was it a rough one yesterday. Today should prove interesting, though, as the WOB collection closes with the Bob Akin 935 leading the pack with a bid of $1,150,500 at the time of writing.

While Paint to Sample cars seem prolific on modern GT and Turbos in today’s market, it wasn’t a box often checked back in 2008, making this 911 Turbo Coupe 6-Speed finished in Light Blue Metallic, a rare bird. Add a Cocoa Special Leather interior and a host of Exclusive options, including Makassar wood, and you have a 1-of-1 Turbo you won’t see anywhere else.

The catch? The almost 118,000 miles on the odometer. But this isn’t a high mileage Turbo that’s seen many owners; it’s a one-owner car with every service record, all of its books and keys, and a recent inspection, including a DME report. If you buy a high-mileage Turbo, this is the one.

The market for 997 Turbos has steadily climbed over the last five years, with the twelve-month average just over $100k and a high sale of $170,250 for a 14,000-mile example and a low of $66,000 for a modified track car. When looking at comps, the highest mileage example we’ve seen in the last twelve months was an 83,000-mile example that sold for $76,000.

But mileage be damned! This Turbo sold for $91,250, $15,000 more than the closest comp, but a fair price for a beautiful example that’s been babied in a rare color combo and no expense spared when optioned new. I’d be happy at this price had I been the winning bidder.
