2012 Porsche Boxster Spyder 6-Speed
When it comes to lightweight Porsche specials, options, or lack there of, matter.

Upon its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2009, Porsche’s 987.2 Boxster Spyder was the lightest Porsche on the market at the time, thanks to the elimination of the conventional soft top, radio, AC, and use of aluminum for the doors and rear deck. To complement the lightness, the Spyder had a firmer suspension setup, sat one inch lower than other Boxster variants, and had a power bump to 316 hp.
Options-wise, you would go two ways: add to the sportiness of the vehicle with PCCB brakes, Sports Exhaust, and Full Bucket Seats, or increase the weight by adding back in all of the stripped creature comforts like the radio, air conditioning, and leather.
The original owner of today’s Spotlight car, this 2,300-mile 2012 Boxster Spyder 6-speed, chose the latter. Finished in Carrera White over Black leather, the car is optioned with the Sport Chrono Package, Sound Package Plus, and Automatic Climate Control. As you can imagine, with only 2,300 miles, this example is in very good condition. It is represented by over 200 photos in the gallery, paint meter readings showing no paintwork, and plenty of service history.
The market for first-gen Boxster Spyders took off post-COVID and has continued to rise over the last few years, with a recent average sales price of just over $71,000. However, price varies greatly depending on spec, with cars equipped with Full Buckets, PCCBs, etc., fetching a premium over cars with most creature comforts added back in.
With its standard paint color and choice of options, our Spotlight car failed to sell at a high bid of $79,500, about $12,500 short of the one-year high we saw for a 4,500-mile Arctic Silver over Red example equipped with Buckets and Sport exhaust. There might have been a few more bids to be had here, but the price was close to where this example should have been. Close, but no cigar.
