A Steal Of A Deal On A Cayman R

Good Morning! It looks like the market had a weekend hangover as only 13 units ended for a total dollar volume of just over $700,000. But the good news, for us buyers at least, is that 992 GT3s have taken another tumble toward MSRP.

Introduced in 2011, the Cayman R was based on the Cayman S but 121 lbs. lighter thanks to 19” lightweight wheels, lighter aluminum doors from the 997 GT3, light-weight bucket seats from the 997 GT2, and the removal of the radio, door handles, and air-conditioning. The R also featured an Aerokit as well as a new sports suspension and could be optioned with a PDK transmission although a 6-speed manual was standard.

As you would expect, the market for manual Cayman Rs is higher than PDK-equipped examples with 6-speeds averaging $70,300 and PDKs averaging $50,500 over the last 12 months. The top 6-speed sale was $90,000, hold on to that tidbit.

This 2012 Cayman R is a PDK-equipped example set up for a bit more touring than a track with some of the items deleted for weight savings added back in when it came time to check the option boxes. The car has Sports Seats instead of Carbon Buckets, Automatic Climate Control, PCM Navigation, and BOSE Sound System.

With 7,000 miles on the odometer, it’s the lowest mileage US example we’ve seen in the last year by a wide margin. The next lowest mileage car had 28k miles and sold for $62,250 back in June of last year. Our Spotlight car sold for a few thousand over that number at $68,000.

That’s not a big jump in price for such a low-mileage car and you might be thinking to yourself, “That was a deal”. Well, I’m here to tell you that it was a SMOKING deal as the seller purchased the car back in 2021 with 6,000 miles for $90,987. Basically they paid top 6-speed money two years ago and lost $22,000 in 1,000 miles. Well-bought for sure.
