This Celebrity-Owned 1987 911 Coupe Did Well, And Not Because of The Prior Owner

Good Morning! I was wrong with both of my predictions yesterday as our sell-through rate only increased into the 60s, and our dollar volume only dropped a few hundred thousand dollars. I’m so returning this crystal ball.

If you’re selling your 1987 911 Coupe in San Francisco, pictures of its previous owner, San Francisco 49er quarterback Steve Young, with the car are a must.

Today’s Spotlight car is a very nice 3.2 Carrera finished in a rare combination of Venetian Blue Metallic over Marine Blue with 75,000 miles. The car received a restoration in 2016 that included a repaint of the front bumper, hood, roof, and mirror caps in its original color. The Marine Blue interior was also refreshed with reupholstered seats, dash, and door panels and comes with service records dating back to new. This is A lovely example with over 200 pictures showing every inch of the car.

The G50-equipped market has steadily climbed over the last three years, with recent comps ranging between $60k and $90k and plenty of cars available. Our Spotlight car, irrespective of the previous owner, was destined for the upper end of the market based on condition and color combination and sold near the top at $85,000.

Did Young’s ownership play a part in the sale? Probably, as this car will be staying in the Bay area, but it doesn’t appear that celebrity ownership affected the price. $85k is a fair deal for an excellent example. Both parties should be happy with the price paid here.
