RS America Market Update: Still Hot

There never seems to be a shortage of low-mile 1993 911 RS America's. We've seen 11 cars with less than 50,000 miles from a total of 29 cross the auction block in the last 12 months alone. That's almost one per month. But when this example showed up for sale last week, we honestly thought there was a very good chance it wouldn't sell.

And not because the RS America market is particularly soft. In fact, today's market looks even stronger than at the end of 2021. The sell-through rate is solid as well besting the overall Porsche market with a 76% STR in the last twelve months. What gave us pause was that this 1993 911 RS America was being offered by Sackey & Co. An online auction house that has only run 6 cars total in the last year, with four of those finding a home.

Luckily, bidders were in fact present and our Spotlight car sold for a solid market correct price of $172,500. Finished in Guards Red over Black Cloth, this car was built with all four options: locking limited-slip differential, stereo, A/C, and electric sunroof. With plenty of service records and a clean CarFax, the only other item missing from the presentation was paint meter readings. Not a deal breaker, but I would have asked for them.

Speaking of asking questions, one of the things absent from Sackey & Co's platform is the ability to comment. You can contact the auction company with questions but there is no way to engage directly with the seller or offer your .02. You are still able to see bids, however, you only see the state in which the bidder is located. This RSA had 16 bids starting at $50,000 and gradually increasing over the days until a final bid of $140,000 was reached. The car ended up selling post-auction at $172,500. Kinda makes us think.
