$10,000 Bump For A Wing?
Yesterday’s lackluster results from Mecum were capped off by selling only 1 car, a 1999 911 Coupe 6sp with 57k miles in Arctic Silver with large wheels and lowered suspension that sold for $21,450. The car above, a 2001 911 Coupe with 82,000 miles finished in Black over Black sold for $31,750. Over $10,000 more for a car with over 20,000 more miles. Why?
Well, the eagle-eyed among you might have noticed that the front end looks slightly different, as do the side skirts. And is that a wing back there? Yes, our spotlight car has a factory Aerokit and 18″ Sport Techno Wheels and although it is also modified, it is done so tastefully with a Billy Boat exhaust system, aftermarket lowing springs, and a Pioneer head unit.
GT3 looks on a budget for sure, and it probably doesn’t sound too bad either as Billy Boat makes a high-quality exhaust. I do believe, however, that had the car been fitted with the stock suspension (or Bilsteins or Ohlins) and a factory head unit, we might have seen closer to $35,000 as Aerokit cars tend to push the upper limit of 996’s even with some miles.
But those things can be changed and if this style of factory wheel isn’t your cup of tea, they can easily be sold and the money earned put toward a set that you like. With that in mind, I think the buyer made out well in the sale and others seem to agree, especially two early bidders who missed the last 30 minutes of bidding action. Well bought for sure.
