A New World Record

$235,000.

We had to put that number up there just to let it ruminate for a second. $235,000 for a 3,000-mile 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet with a 6-Speed manual transmission. Why? Because find another one.

While there are plenty of low-mileage cars popping up from time to time, most of those cars are usually cars that are deemed future collectibles when new. But back in 2012, a 911 Turbo Cabriolet was just another 911 turbo. Also for the 997.2 generation Turbo, the new quick-shifting PDK transmission replaced the Tiptronic transmission offering lightning-fast shifts and smooth cruising making the take-rate of the optional manual 6-Speed transmission fairly small.

But little did we know back then that the 997.2 Turbo would be the last of its breed and we’d never see a 6-Speed manual in a Turbo again. This low-mileage gem is really the last of its kind, and well deserving a new record price for a 997 Turbo at auction.

As this was a one-owner car with a $170,000 sticker, I’m sure said owner made out fairly well. But the car was sold by a dealer who acquired the car a few months ago. To find such an example is a needle in a haystack moment and then to have two bidders who each wanted the car, badly, well lightning struck the needle. Well-sold and well-sourced by the dealer. And the buyer now as the perfect 997 Turbo to add to his collection of Turbos going back to an original 930.
