Are 718 Cayman S’ Dropping Like Rocks?
It’s been exactly two years since we’ve seen a 718 Cayman S 6-Speed sell below the $60,000 floor set in early 2021. Even with miles, others have sold in the $60-70,000 range with some low mileage examples trading hands above $70k.
Our Spotlight, the 24,000-mile 2018 718 Cayman pictured above, is finished in Black over Black leather interior and features 20″Carrera Wheels (in black), Sport Exhaust, and Bose Sound System. It had an MSRP of just over $78,000 and sold yesterday on PCARMARKET for $58,263 making this the low point for the last 24 months.
So is the sky falling on 718s or is there more to unpack here? For a black car, the paint showed very well in the detailed photos with only minor imperfections that could be easily buffed out. The wheels were painted black by a previous owner and the rear tail lights were tinted as well.
The vehicle history is clean and there was no mention of prior paint by the seller although no paint meter readings were provided. The seller also stated that the car has been maintained although no records were provided in the pictures other than a 4k service on the CarFax.
All of the above sounds great, but it’s also the reason the car dropped below $60k. To start, the car was lightly optioned at $78,000 as we’ve seen cars with $10-20,000 more in options. And although the car looks great all blacked out, you are eliminating potential buyers with the painted wheels and tinted tail lights. Plus, a little more effort in presentation would have gone a long way had the seller provided proof that the car was paint free and fully serviced.
So when you take all of that into consideration, $58,263 seems like a fair deal all around. Well-sold, well-bought, and off to be enjoyed by a new Porsche enthusiast.
