Auction Season Kicks Off
The 2023 auction season kicks off next week in Arizona with Barrett-Jackson offering 45 Porsche’s all at no reserve. While the majority of cars on the docket are your standard fare, there are a number of high-profile sales that will give us a good look at where we can expect pricing this year thanks to each car finding a home as long as someone bids. While not heavy on vintage offerings, there are quite a few modern classics on offer worth taking a look at before the circus starts.
The most notable car scheduled to cross the block is this 2005 Porsche Carrera GT repainted in a custom shade of Red by the noted shop Karosserie in Wayne, PA. Said to have been painted due to owner preference and not because of damage, it will be interesting to see what this 3,300-mile example brings due to its non-Porsche Classic repaint and a sagging Carrera GT market.
Air-cooled Turbos are well represented with two 930 Turbos, a 964 Turbo 3.6, and not one, but four 993 Turbos on offer, one of which is a 27,000 1997 911 Turbo S finished in Black over Black leather. And while we’re talking about low-mileage 993s, this 37,000-mile 1996 911 Carrera 4S looks like an interesting example in Arctic Silver with factory aerokit.
GT cars are also plenty with two 2018 911 GT2 RS Weissach cars, one with only 40 miles, and two 2016 911 GT3 RS’. It’s like Noah’s Ark of GT cars. The GT highlight though is this 2016 Porsche 911 R finished in White with Red stripes with only 915 miles.
No other auction house matches the extravaganza that is Barrett-Jackson in January. Where else can you bid on a Honda Ruckus scooter and a million-dollar Carrera GT while eating cheese fries and guzzling Coors Light? While our sell-through rate will be inflated next week, we’re keen to see where prices land. Popcorn in hand.
