Bargain Basement 997

If you’ve ever wondered where the entry point into a running, drivable, doesn’t-need-to-be-rebuilt 997 is, it’s right here where this 139,000 2005 911 Cabriolet 6-speed ended yesterday at $21,000.

Besides the price, for a 139,000-mile car, this example had a lot going for it with service records since new and $14,000 in maintenance performed since March 2020. On the other hand, two accidents on the CarFax, and no mention of the IMS bearing being upgraded in all of those invoices definitely kept this drive from creeping closer to $25k.

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the IMS bearing as if it hasn’t failed in 139,000 miles, it isn’t going to fail. And for the price paid, I’d be willing to roll the dice and take the seller’s word for the minor repairs from the “parking lot” accident.

Any well-maintained higher mileage 911 is going to be well-bought as the seller is not making out in the money game. But at least they enjoyed the car and kept up with maintenance as a good 911 owner should before passing the enjoyment on to another.
